Lore & Background

Operation Locker is one of the ten maps in Battlefield 4's main game. The game's multiplayer features three playable factions—the United States, China, and Russia—fighting against each other. The map is part of the standard rotation for game modes including Conquest, Domination, Rush, Obliteration, Defuse, Team Deathmatch, and Squad Deathmatch. Like all maps in Battlefield 4, Operation Locker supports the Levolution gameplay mechanic, which includes environmental effects such as shooting a fire extinguisher to fill a room with obscuring clouds, car alarms going off when stepped on, metal detectors triggering when passed through, or cutting power in a room to reduce visibility.

In Their Own Story

The single-player campaign of Battlefield 4 takes place during the fictional 'War of 2020', six years after the events of Battlefield 3. Tensions between Russia and the United States have been running at a record high due to a conflict between the two countries that has been running for the last six years. Admiral Chang, the main antagonist, plans with Russian support to overthrow China's current government, aiming to form an alliance against the United States. The player controls Sgt. Daniel 'Reck' Recker, second-in-command of a U.S. Marine Corps Force Recon squad callsigned 'Tombstone'. His squadmates include squad leader SSgt. William Dunn, Heavy Weapon Specialist SSgt. Kimble 'Irish' Graves, and field medic Sgt. Clayton 'Pac' Pakowski. The campaign features assignments that unlock weapons for use in multiplayer upon completion.

Reader's Guide

Operation Locker is a close-quarters infantry map. Players can customize their weapons with attachments and camouflage, and can switch between firing modes (automatic, semi-automatic, and burst fire). The 'spotting' mechanic marks opponents' positions on the mini-map and with a triangle icon above their player model. The game's bullet-dropping system is significantly enhanced, affecting medium to long distance combat. Players can counter melee attacks from the front while standing or crouching, shoot with their sidearm while swimming, and dive underwater to avoid detection. Standard abilities include reloading while sprinting, unlimited sprint, prone, and vaulting. The four kits from Battlefield 3 return with minor tweaks: Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. The Commander Mode, last seen in Battlefield 2142, gives one player on each team a real-time strategy-like view of the entire map and the ability to give orders, deploy vehicle and weapon drops, and order missile strikes. A spectator mode allows viewing in first or third person or with a free camera.
