Arras

Mud, blood, and barbed wire define this historic front.

Unlike its contemporaries set during World War II, this map transports players back to the brutal trench warfare of the First World War. It serves as a unique bridge between the series' primary timeline and the earlier conflict that shaped modern combat tactics.

Lore & Background

Within the Battlefield universe, Arras is notable for its inclusion in a World War II-focused title. It highlights the technological infancy of armored warfare compared to later eras. The environment reflects the devastation of chemical warfare, with gas clouds lingering over the battlefield, forcing players to utilize respirators and navigate through muddy, cratered landscapes that hinder movement.

In Their Own Story

The mud sucked at Corporal Halloway's boots as he crouched behind the sandbags. Above, the sky was a bruised purple, choked by smoke from burning villages. A distant rumble vibrated through the earth—German tanks, slow and lumbering beasts of steel. He checked his bolt-action rifle, the wood slick with rain. There were no glory days here in Arras, only the waiting and the firing.

Reader's Guide

The map layout consists of three primary trench lines running horizontally across the sector. The center line serves as the main objective zone where most infantry combat occurs. Players must navigate through narrow dugouts to reach support positions while avoiding artillery fire that targets open ground in No Man's Land. Vehicle spawns are located behind the front-line trenches, protecting tanks from immediate infantry ambushes at map start. Mark V tanks provide crucial firepower but are slow and vulnerable to anti-tank rifles if flanked. Infantry should prioritize capturing flags near the trench intersections to secure vehicle access routes. Tactics favor close-quarters combat within the trenches, where machine gunners dominate. However, using smoke grenades is essential for crossing open fields safely. Artillery support can be called down on enemy concentrations, but accuracy decreases in the fog of war.
